Moving Waters
Moving Waters is a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life in our unhoused brothers and sisters in the Houston area by providing showers via a mobile shower service.
Moving Waters currently takes their mobile shower trailer to three different parts of Houston on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week.
From there, guests arrive and receive food, clothes and hygiene products as well as a nice cleansing shower.
When our family volunteered with them, we were in charge of cleaning and sanitizing each of the shower and restroom stalls after someone finished their shower. We prepped the shower rooms and provided clean linens for the next person each time.
Between all of that, the best part was just sitting around and talking with some of our unhoused neighbors and hearing their stories. The human connection was the most valuable part of the experience for me.
I ran for Moving Waters for two months and completed 243 new streets. We made a $243 dollar donation to Moving Waters and the group I run with on Friday nights, Freaks Run Club, also supported Moving Waters during this time. The club collectively raised over $3,300 to support them through money we raised hosting an event at an Astros game. It’s so great to bring more people into partnership with local non-profits.
