The WOW Project
The World of Wellness Project is an organization in the Alief area of southwest Houston aimed at teaching wellness as a whole.
Having worked in public school education my entire career, I know the importance of the meals many students receive for free or at reduced rates each day at school. During the summer months it can be a stressful time for families when healthy food can be hard to come by. Many families rely on food banks or other assistance programs to meet their needs during this time when having to choose between paying for food or other necessities.
The summer months are when food banks need the most donations and organizations like The WOW Project have taken things into their own hands and created community fridges and pantries in areas where people are facing food insecurity.
Our family purchased $127 in healthy groceries to distribute to community fridge the WOW Project manages for the 127 streets I completed in the previous month.
I shared that this is where I was making a donation and asked if anyone else wanted to join. In all, we donated more than $275 of healthy food to the Alief community. Special thanks to my friend Gautham for stopping by with some food as well.
If you’re interested in donating to this community fridge, it is located at 12131 Beechnut St. STE A & A1, Houston, TX 77072. You can donate on Sundays between 10-10:30 am.
There are many community fridge locations around Houston with various needs and operating times. To find one near you check out @htxcommunityfridges on Instagram.
